Your Guide to Del Valley Golf
The broad array of golf courses scattered around the city of Philadelphia may not be year-round venues but that surely doesn’t detract from the quality of these layouts. The region extends from Philadelphia and its surrounding areas in Pennsylvania into New Jersey, all the way to Atlantic City and south into Northeast Maryland along the Chesapeake Bay area and into neighboring Delaware. The Philadelphia area itself has hosted a total of six U.S. Open golf championships at Merion Golf Club (1981, 1971, 1950 and 1934) in Ardmore, Pa., and at the Philadelphia Cricket Club (1910 and 1907). Merion’s East Course will once again host the Open in 2013. The Delaware Valley is also home to New Jersey’s Pine Valley, widely believed to be the world’s No. 1 golf course. |
